Handcrafted Text-to-image processing using protein datasets
Peptomics is a journey into the very essence of life,
blending the precision of science with the beauty of bio-art.
By visualizing and interacting with the words hidden within proteins,
we are offered a new lens through which to understand our world and ourselves.
Join us in exploring this fascinating intersection of biology,
culture and artistry.
Discover the hidden language within and see your own words come to life in a way you never imagined.
Peptomics has pioneered an astonishing method that delves into the very fabric of life. Imagine a world where the language of proteins—the essential building blocks of life—is translated into words.
This groundbreaking technique deciphers the hidden language within amino acid sequences, revealing a new dimension of biological artistry.
By leveraging online databases like the Protein Data Bank, Peptomics integrates scientific research with artistic creativity.
Each alphabet letter corresponds to an Amino Acid within a protein, enabling scientifically accurate and artistically profound visuals.
In a world where scripts are typically two-dimensional, Peptomics breaks the mold by introducing a three-dimensional visualization of the alphabet and words.
This new script system is based on the atomic 3D values of proteins.
Peptomics offers a unique perspective on how we can visualize and interact with the fundamental components of life.
Just as ancient cuneiform scripts carved on 3D cult objects held religious and magical significance, Peptomics brings that profound connection into the modern era.
By identifying words within protein structures, we open up a new dimension in the timeless relationship between language and life.
At PEPTOMICS, we faced a tough choice: selecting the first words to visualize.
With endless options, we chose the seven deadly sins—emotional and universally known (even though I’m not religious or a member of any church).
Inspired by ancient traditions, we’ve transformed the seven deadly sins into stunning visual art using human protein data.
Each sin, from lust to sloth, is depicted with its amino acid letter sequence, merging their symbolic and biological meanings.
We offer a fresh perspective on human nature. These artworks turn abstract ideas into concrete insights, making science both beautiful and relatable.
Experience the power of PEPTOMICS. See the seven deadly sins in a new light—symbolic and biological.
Peptomics bridges the ancient and the modern, linking the early scripts of humanity with contemporary scientific discoveries.
Just as ancient scripts had profound cultural significance, so too do the words extracted from proteins carry crucial biochemical signals.
This project is a testament to the intrinsic connection between our biological makeup and our cultural expressions.
Peptomics reveals the language inside organisms, transforming it into stunning Bio Art. Our “Molecular Word Modelling” process identifies your word within amino acid sequences of proteins.
Using scientific bio-data, your word is uniquely visualized in 3D and assigned a biological function within its source organism.
Type your word to generate a preview of its letters.
Own it as a handcrafted digital NFT or a real 3D sculpture.
What’s behind your word?
Welcome to Peptomics!
I'm Jo Blank, the creative force behind the Peptomics project.
My wife Shaila, a brilliant molecular physicist, is the scientific brain behind the project. When we first met, our conversations were filled with endless discussions about molecular protein science.
These discussions were the starting point of the Peptomics project.
We talked so much about it that we ended up getting married and now have two wonderful children. Science truly brought us together!
During and after my media-art studies at HGB Leipzig, I've had the privilege of showcasing my work in diverse venues, i.e. Leipzig Book Fair, Ars Electronica in Linz and Pera Museum in Istanbul.
My writings have appeared in publications like MIT's Leonardo magazine, and my projects have been featured by the BBC, Reuters, Spiegel Online, and others.
My journey has been recognized with awards like the Ars Electronica (Net Excellence/Net Vision), Red Dot, DDC Award, and the German Design Award.
As Head of E-Learning and XR at how2 agency in Munich, I continue to push boundaries, fueled by my past ventures like founding OGOIO (browsergame solution) and Treibstoff (agency for design & concept).
Teaching at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice/Italy has enriched my perspective, blending academic insight with artistic expression.
Peptomics is the culmination of my passion for science and art.
Step into this world and discover how the language of proteins is turned into meaningful works of art.
Since its inception, Peptomics has evolved into a project of remarkable depth and breadth. The images below document some of the project steps...
