At PEPTOMICS, we faced a tough choice: selecting the first words to visualize.

With endless options, we chose the seven deadly sins—emotional and universally known (even though I’m not religious or a member of any church).

Inspired by ancient traditions, we’ve transformed the seven deadly sins into stunning visual art using human protein data.

Each sin, from lust to sloth, is depicted with its amino acid letter sequence, merging their symbolic and biological meanings.

We offer a fresh perspective on human nature. These artworks turn abstract ideas into concrete insights, making science both beautiful and relatable.

Jo Blank

Welcome to Peptomics!

I'm Jo Blank, the creative force behind the Peptomics project.

My wife Shaila, a brilliant molecular physicist, is the scientific brain behind the project. When we first met, our conversations were filled with endless discussions about molecular protein science.

These discussions were the starting point of the Peptomics project.

We talked so much about it that we ended up getting married and now have two wonderful children. Science truly brought us together!

During and after my media-art studies at HGB Leipzig, I've had the privilege of showcasing my work in diverse venues, i.e. Leipzig Book Fair, Ars Electronica in Linz and Pera Museum in Istanbul. My writings have appeared in publications like MIT's Leonardo magazine, and my projects have been featured by the BBC, Reuters, Spiegel Online, and others.

My journey has been recognized with awards like the Ars Electronica (Net Excellence/Net Vision), Red Dot, DDC Award, and the German Design Award. As Head of E-Learning and XR at how2 agency in Munich, I continue to push boundaries, fueled by my past ventures like founding OGOIO (browsergame solution) and Treibstoff (agency for design & concept).

Teaching at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice/Italy has enriched my perspective, blending academic insight with artistic expression.

Peptomics is the culmination of my passion for science and art.
